People with lower incomes are more likely to smoke. In fact, 40% of Food Stamp clients in Missouri smoke—14% higher than the general population. The Health Communication Research Laboratory (HCRL) piloted a non-stigmatizing Quitline campaign that developed a partnership between the Missouri Department of Social Services Family Support Division and the Missouri Tobacco Quitline. Using the HCRL’s campaign materials, county managers customized community-specific Quitline displays for every Food Stamp office in Missouri .
With the HCRL, Christine Stavridis helped research and develop campaign messages and designed many of the campaign materials.
