The Old North Grocery Co-op is an organization and grocery helping to alleviate North St. Louis’ food desert problem. In an area where residents had to travel miles to get fresh fruit and vegetables, the Co-op (opened July 2010), provides a source for affordable produce from local farmers. It is one of the key reasons the Old North St. Louis neighborhood was awarded the EPA’s 2011 National Award for Overall Excellence in Smart Growth.
